Power relations are central to shaping collaborative governance of the urban sharing economy

Abstract Since its rise in the early 2000s, sharing economy has expanded and developed rapidly worldwide. While can boost resource-use efficiency encourage sustainable urban living, it also challenges governance. Recently, a collaborative governance (CG) approach involving public private partnerships been adopted various global cities to address these dilemmas. However, influence of stakeholder power relations on CG remains inadequately explored literature. This article argues that multi-actor collaboration be enhanced by clarifying how shape effective governance, actor engagement, shared motivation, capacity for joint actions. draws practical insights discussing examples practices bike-sharing programs demonstrate nature public-private result specific (and quite different) forms CG. will help researchers, policymakers, planners, communities understand new era cities.
